Well, we had an amazing time this bank holiday weekend at the Burghley Game & Country Fair, working with Andy and the Gillies Leap Dog Show, and it was great to meet so many of you and your wonderful dogs! The Sunday was definitely the better of the two days and I was kept busy all day. Monday was the day of the soggy doggy and much quieter overall. And I’m not too sure why our marquee ended up on the muddiest piece of grass in the whole show?!
It did mean that my sparkly new white vinyl didn’t remain sparkly white for very long at all! No matter! It’s wipe clean, and we spent a lot of time wiping it clean… I also accepted that I will be doing a lot of airbrushing of photos over the next few days (although I think the muddy paw prints add some authenticity – I quite like them!!)
So, for those of you whose dogs autographed my backdrop, the photos are up here. And for those of you who entered the prize draw to win a free portrait, the winner is announced there too.
The Fun Dog Show was great fun – we had all ages and sizes of dogs – and handlers! We had to award a special rosette to little Ava, who handled her rather large retriever Trilby with such confidence, the waggiest tail prize went to a dog outside the ring and we had the slowest time ever recorded for a labrador to eat a bonio (get into training for next year please!)
Winners of each day are pictured below, and each will win a framed portrait of their dog (or dog and child) as well as an invitation to our Grand Final Best of Year Class and family pass to the Hertfordshire show in October. We also managed to raise over £300 for the Deaf Dogs Network, which is brilliant, so thank you for your support in that.
Behind the scenes? Well it was my first time camping at a Game & Country Fair and I have to say I did feel a bit as if we’d run away with the circus! I met some very interesting people, drank mead with a Viking, paddled across a river to get to the loos in the morning and learnt more about ferrets than I ever wished to know. It was great fun, but I really appreciated that hot bath and warm bed last night.
Roll on the next one! Unfortunately the Woburn Show has been cancelled as the ground is waterlogged, but we’ll be at Broadlands in Hampshire in June and more in September (click here for details) so if you live nearby, please come and say hello!!
